Your first 90 days in a new role, planned properly

The strongest starters treat the first quarter as a project. A simple structure candidates can borrow.

The people who settle fastest into a new role are rarely the most experienced ones. They are the ones who arrive with a plan for how they will learn.

Days 1–30: listen deliberately

Book short conversations with everyone your work touches and ask the same three questions: what does good look like here, what is currently in your way, and what should I know that nobody will tell me?

Days 31–60: deliver something small

Find a contained problem you can finish. Credibility in a new team is built by shipping, not by proposing. Choose something visible, useful and unambiguously yours.

 

Days 61–90: commit to a direction

By the end of the quarter you should be able to state what you will own over the next six months, and what you are choosing not to do. Share it with your manager in writing — it turns an assumed understanding into an agreed one.
